I started practising Zen with my aikido teacher, Kanetsuke Sensei, in 1981, having previously tried samatha meditation and had five years as a Rajneesh sannyasin; joined Genpo Roshi's Kanzeon sangha and received jukai from him in 1988 and shukke tokudo (monk ordination) in 2010. From 2011-12 I experienced the medicine wheel with the Shuh Shuh Guh. In 2012 I transferred to the Wild Goose Zen Sangha and studied with Patrick Kundo Roshi and then Jeremy Ryokan Sensei, who gave me transmission on October 18th 2020. I have worked as a cognitive behavioural therapist for over 20 years, and was formerly a lecturer in CBT at Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology.
From January 2025 I have followed my teacher from the Wild Goose into Stonewater Zen Sangha.
