Jan Jinkai Gary is a Zen teacher, author and writer of narrative nonfiction. Her home sangha is Joyful Mind Zendo of Rockville, Maryland, where she serves as the facilitating teacher of the Tuesday evening online sangha and co-leads the monthly meeting of the The Tea Ladies, a woman's sangha, along with Guiding teacher Martine Taikai Palmiter.

She is based in Key West, Florida, where she writes, dances, sings and practices the dharma. Other Zen affiliations include the Village Zendo and Zen Peacemakers.
