Born in 1947, trained as a artist and art teacher I started my Zen path in 1982 in the Kosmos, Amsterdam.
In 1984 I became a student of Genpo Merzel Roshi and I travelled often with him through Europe or to USA for sesshin and training. I lived some years in his Center in Salt Lake City, came back to Amsterdam in 2001.
I continued study with Nico Sojun Tydeman Sensei/Roshi
He gave me transmission in 2011 and Inka in 2019 .
Between 2011 and 2020 I was the spiritual leader of Kanzeon Zen Center Rotterdam.
Because of my health I had to say farewell to the Rotterdam sangha, and handing over this place to Helma Jifu Vulink, Roshi.
I was able to keep the group in Bergen and lead sesshin.
Up until now I was fortunate to give transmission to: Leo Sumitra Ahimsa Huijg en Marli Daigen Jifu Lindeboom (passed away 11th of January 2022), Willem Mokusui de Vos, Bernard ReiOun Faber and Melchert Myotai Visser (passed away 19th of May 2026)

Beside Zen the Arts are important to me.
I also worked as an art teacher and I am still an artist.
