Ryo has served as Guiding Teacher of the Empty Hand Zen Center in New Rochelle, NY, since April 2019. He also teaches at the Village Zendo in New York City and the Hudson River Zen Center in Yonkers, NY.

Ryo began his Zen studies in 1989, studying with John Daido Loori at Zen Mountain Monastery. In 1997, he continued his studies with Pat Enkyo O'Hara. He was ordained by her in 2002 and received Dharma Transmission from her in 2008. He received inka from her in 2020.

In addition to teaching Zen, Ryo maintains a psychotherapy practice in New York City.
